Error Splicing File
I just today December 2025 had the splicing problem copying a 9GB file from ext4 to an external ntfs harddrive, with a semi current Ubuntu (24.4).
Nothing worked, neither restart nor different tooling.
In the end, I booted windows and successfully copied the file with winSCP via ssh connection.
What this tells me, is that
- read from ext4 was no problem.
- Write to ext4 is no problem since it was the same 24.4 Ubuntu which wrote the file onto the ext4 in the first place
- ntfs on its own is not the problem, since windows could successfully write the file to the target hard drive.
My conclusion is that either there is something wrong with my system in general, or there is a bug in the ntfs driver package.
